Been awhile

It's been a while since I've updated. Canada Post is no longer on strike, so I've been playing catch-up with mail. The items I've received over the last bit include:
- Coppertone Beach bag
- Always samplers
- Garnier (full size) Anti Wrinkle cream
- Olay (full size) pore minimizer scrub/cleanser
- A. Vogel sample - Herbamare herb and vegetable sea salt
- Biotherm Aquasource sample
tons of coupons including FPC for Always, Saybon candy, Dr. Oetker Sherrif Mousse.

I also have a bunch of coupons that expire of the next few weeks (18th, 21st, 31st of July). Some of these coupons, I probably won't use so, I think the coupon fairy will be leaving these coupons on or near product in a store(s) this weekend.

Happy Shopping!

Shopping, Shopping, Shopping

I took a trip to the Dollarama tonight, I wasn't happy with how I had my coupons organized in a small filing folder, so, I splurged and purchased everything I'd need to set up a binder. For a total of $9.20 I purchased a zipper binder ($2), 4 packages of baseball card holders ($1 each), a package of full sheet pockets ($1) and a package of index dividers ($1). So, for under $10 I now have a fancy smanchy coupon binder!!

After I left Dollarama, I went across the street to Walmart (with competitors flyers in hand in case I needed to price match anything). Here's what I picked up tonight:
3 x Quantim Finish Starter kits (clearance @$6) used 3x $6 off = $0
2 x Schweppes Ginger Ale ($1.50 each) used 2 x $1.00 off = .50 each plus .10 deposit total: $1.20
1x Scrubbing Bubbles Extended Clean ($8.47) used $5.00 off = $3.47
1x Pure Protein bar ($1.67) used the FPC that was in either SmartSource or Red Plum = $0

My grand total for $36.01 (including tax) worth of merchandise ended up being $9.34 for a grand total of 75% savings...not too bad

Rib Rub...Rib Rub...

Say that 3 times fast!! I mixed up some batches of rib rub yesterday, a sweet rub (on the left) and a spicy rub (on the right). I located recipes on www.meat-smoking.com....and I altered them slightly...
Currently, there are two racks of side ribs in the fridge with one rubbed in the spicy and another rubbed in the sweet - will be interesting to see how they turn out! If this damn rain would go away so I don't get soaked BBQing them!

Recipes:

Sweet Dry Rub for Ribs

6 tablespoons brown sugar
3 tablespoons paprika
3 tablespoons salt
3 tablespoons ground black pepper
2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoon mustard powder

I pretty much followed this recipe to a T - doubled the batch so I had additional rub on hand for the next time. I did use a mix of 'regular' paprika and smoked paprika in this one.

Spicy Dry Rub for Ribs

6 tablespoons paprika
3 tablespoons salt
3 teaspoons ground black pepper
2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons Onion Powder
1 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
use Habanero peppers or for more flavour Chipotle peppers (dried & smoked jalapeno peppers) to add real heat

I didn't have cayenne pepper, and thought I had picked up some chipotle powder, but, it must have fallen through the rails of the shopping cart, so I used chili powder (just a touch) in its place.

Will be interesting to see how they turn out - nothing like making your family guinea pigs!!

Hope there is more excitement next week!

Is Man V Food is a bad influence?

We love watching Man V Food (we only get re-runs here in Canada). Last night was the episode that featured the Sonora Dog. What's a Sonora Dog you ask? It is a bacon (yes, bacon) wrapped hot dog, and for toppings: chopped tomato, onion, shredded cheese, red chili sauce, beans, mayo, ketchup, mustard and chopped jalapenos. I did these on the BBQ and secured the bacon with toothpicks (and they are double wrapped!! 2 slices per dog).

But, this is interesting. Here is the cover of a recipe booklet from Canada Packers (est. 1927). Canada Packers was a meat
packing and processing and is now part of Maple Leaf foods (1991). Notice anything interesting here...the Canadian version of the Sonora Dog!! In the booklet, they were referred to as Deluxe Dogs - and man 'o man, they are deluxe!! I highly recommend these delights if you are having one of those "don't give a crap about my cholesterol" days.

These are so easy to make. You literally wrap the hot dog (fresh out of the package) with a full slice of bacon. I wrap on the diagonal so that the bacon looks like a spiral (just like on the cover). You can fry them in a pan on the stove, or on the bbq. I prefer mine with cheese, ketchup and mayo.

Just like the old Alka-Selzer commercial: "Try it, you'll like it"

Canada Post set to strike

Well, it looks like Canada Post will be striking as early as Friday. This is a good news/bad news thing. Good news, there is an agreement in place to ensure that Government cheques will be delivered, bad news, that's ALL that will be delivered.

I understand the desire for a wage increase, but, if CP is saving their revenues are down 17%, how can they afford what the union is asking for. If, long term, they come to some agreement, you will see yet another increase in the postal rates.

Here's hoping the 'good stuff' comes in the mail before they strike - and if they do strike, it's not for months. Then again...imagine our mailboxes when they do start delivering again!!

Freebies!!

Nothing is better than getting things for free!
Or two for one deals (those are good too)!!

The cereal was free (Sobey's had a BOGO, and I had a coupon for a free box). The pop was free (Coke sent coupons to households for a free 2L bottle, and the coupon booklet in the flyers had a free 2L Schwepps) I paid deposit only. The Glade Sense & Spray was a freebie, the toilet scrubs were a BOGO ($3.00 each at Walmart). So taxes, deposit and $3.00 for the toilet scrubs, I paid roughly $4.50. Great deal, considering the cereal was $5.59 each!!
Through various websites, we've also gotten laundry soap samples (Purex 3 in 1, Purex with Zout), feminine hygiene products (U by Kotex), Gillette men's samples (antiperspirant, shave cream, razor), Herbal Essence shampoo and conditioner, waiting for the Costco Proctor and Gamble sampler as well as various other freebies. I'll post as I get them!

Some great places to sign-up for coupons are:
websaver.ca
save.ca
Proctor and Gamble (you can get sampler packs here too!)
gocoupons.ca

Enjoy!

Yes, it HAS been a while!!

Almost 5 months to be exact since I've posted anything.

So, my rant will start with this.....WTF is Kat Von D thinking, accepting a marriage proposal from Jesse James? I realize that they may indeed be kindred tattooed spirits, but, really, what is she thinking?

This is be the miscellaneous part....WE moved into a house - our own HOME - how cool is that?? And someday, maybe all the boxes will be unpacked. We cooked chicken in the newly re-homed rotisserie tonight..mmmm, chicken and rice....yummers....

Can you believe that I've actually having a brain fart? Daily, I think of things to rant about, and now that it's time to 'get 'em all out' - I have NO recollection of what I was going to go on about....
Leave it to me.....
